Gov. Samuel Ortom on Saturday appealed to protesters in some components of Makurdi, the state capital, to stay calm and directed safety operatives to revive order.
The Information Agency of Nigeria (NAN) stories that Makurdi residents took to the streets in a peaceable protest, over the killings in Guma and Emblem Native Authorities councils.
Gov. Ortom made the decision in a press release issued by his Particular Adviser on Media and ICT, Mr. Tahav Agerzua in Makurdi.
The governor strongly condemned the protests in some components of the state capital and directed all safety operatives particularly, the Commissioner of Police Mr Bashir Makama, to make sure restoration of order within the affected areas.
“The governor appeals to residents to stay calm and report any breach of peace to safety businesses for vital motion.”
“The state has suffered an excessive amount of losses by way of human lives and property and can’t afford one other spherical of disaster.”
“The police ought to arrest those that trigger hassle whoever they’re, examine the causes of the protests, and prosecute these accountable for breach of the peace,” Ortom directed.
He assured Benue people who efforts can be intensified with the collaboration of the related safety businesses to revive peace and order to all components of the state.
