Neville: Kane might have to leave to become world class
Harry Kane might have to leave Tottenham “to become world class”, according to Phil Neville.
Kane guided Tottenham to a 3-1 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, continuing his fine record on the European stage.
The striker has scored four goals in four Champions League games, and has six goals and two assists in his last four games in all competitions for club and country.
Such a record would suggest that Kane is already in the top echelon of strikers in world football, but Neville believes he may have to leave Tottenham to be recognised as such.
He could have to leave Spurs to become that real top, top, world class Lewandowski-type player, he could,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Because if Spurs maintain just being a top four team, that will not be good enough for somebody like Harry Kane.
“I think he needs to be challenging for Ballon d’Ors. I think he needs to be challenging for Champions Leagues and if Spurs are always going to be that ‘nearly’ team, eventually he will want to leave and join a Real Madrid or Barcelona.”
